BIOGRAPHY
I am mostly from Fullerton, but I have a secret place for Costa Mesa in my heart. I grew up in Southern California, and have grown up around my family of artists and diverse community. In my free time, I read, join in on new experiences that take up way too much commitment in my time, create stories that I will never write, and wonder about my area alone and thinking way too much. I will often times find them self trying to go to any marketplace/cultural night/ festival activity because I like the diversity of it but also go to museum to see old artist work. Everyday I try to expand my horizons as I am constantly growing.
ARTIST
STATEMENT
For me art has always been part of my life. From stick figures, to figures with their arms behind their back, to realistic portraits, to designed artwork. While I am still learning in my artwork what my style is and what I bring to the art community, I always try to keep my art organic and energetic. While my lines are imperfect, their sort of looseness is something I like to keep in my work because of the natural and illustrative qualities. While my background is much more on realism, I love deigning things and working on composition as it helps me grow as an artist. But more and more I try to expand my designs to have illustrative properties that tell a story and I tend to admire more illustrative and whimsical works.I hope to translate my illustrative properties into Graphic Design within various poster making, logo making , and other projects. Being able to tell a story whether its with a line, a font, or an entire piece is what is most important in my work so that my audience feels as though they understand and can take a piece of my art with them.
Artist influence
James R. Eads has influenced my life and artwork today. I've met him in person once and he;s actually the reason I ended up going to University of the Pacific. He and my mother actually talked about how I was struggling between choosing two different colleges, Otis College of Art and Design and University of the Pacific, and he told my mom that he actually went to Otis for a semester and hated it, and he encouraged me to go to University of the Pacific and since I have admired him and his work for such a long time I took his advice. I have visited his studio in LA twice now and have purchased a few pieces from him. He's influenced my art in was of illustration and color. Eads has such a strong yet whimsical use of color that I've always been drawn to, and his pieces inspire me to be bolder in my color usage, and I've always enjoyed his looser mark making similar to Van Gogh but still much more geared towards illustration and whimsy.
